THE 12TH LEIGH ART TRAIL OPENS ITS DOORS THIS JUNE
(various venues)
Saturday, 14/06/2008- 21/06/2008
FREE

The annual Leigh Art Trail has become an important part of the town’s cultural calendar. Now in its twelfth year, the 2008 event is being held from 14th – 21st June, and will showcase the talents of over 50 selected artists and designer-makers in around 35 venues.

Leigh Art Trail offers a unique opportunity to walk around the town and sample the amazing creativity and diversity of work including painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, photography, printmaking and jewellery produced by artists living and working in Leigh. Visitors are able to meet and talk to the artists and watch demonstrations at selected venues. In what has now become typical art-trail tradition, in the region of 6,000 visitors will be able to view the work free of charge in the makers’ homes, gardens, studios, galleries, shops and restaurants.

Whilst the majority of the artists will be familiar to visitors to the trail, many new artists will be exhibiting for the first time. Having established strong links with the local community it will also feature work from the Connexions Youth Centre, local schools and South East Essex College.

Leigh Art Trail guides will be available from early May. For further information visit www.leigharttrail.co.uk.

Focal Point Gallery is delighted to be hosting an exhibition by the French photographer Chrystel Lebas. Her sumptuous landscapes hold a mystical and even psychological significance and are often linked to childhood memories, legends and fairy tales. The images in the show are taken from the two series, Abyss and Blue Hour; the work being a culmination of the last five years. As part of the programme, we are also inviting artists from our pool of tutors to make new work in response to Chrystel Lebas' work. There will be an exhibition on our education walls and in DVD screenings at venues around the town.

Schools interested in the Extended Schools Club, please contact the Gallery on 01702 534108 or Diane Baker, Southend Borough Council's Extended Schools Coordinator, on 01702 535947.
